Meet Johanna

Dr. Johanna Schanbacher, PT, DPT, RYT-500

After graduating high school, Johanna took a hiatus from formal education. During this time, she traveled extensively, immersing deeply in other cultures. These formative years led to a strong sense of integrity, appreciation for diversity, and a solid foundation on which to build her education. Fueled by enthusiasm to help others, Johanna graduated from Colorado State University, summa cum laude, with a BS in Health & Exercise Science and a concentration in Sports Medicine. She went on to complete her Doctorate of Physical Therapy at University of Colorado. Johanna has always been passionate about movement, participating in a wide variety of recreational sports and activities. In 2019, Johanna found yoga… or really, it found her. Quickly realizing that yoga was far more than a physical practice, she enrolled in RYT-200 level training, to deepen her understanding of yogic philosophies and lifestyle. She then completed the RYT-500 hour Ayurvedic Science and Yoga program through ZenSpot Institute to continue on her life-long path of learning. As she journeys down her own scenic route of discovery and exploration, she would love to work with you, on finding and navigating yours!

Testimonials

  • Working with Johanna has been nothing short of amazing. After working with another physical therapist last year, nothing seemed to help my nerve pain. After a few sessions with Johanna, she figured out what was causing the pain and how to fix it. The pain is gone! The thing I like most about how Johanna works is she really spends a quality amount of time with you. I don't feel rushed in her space.

  • I love the constant attention to my form. She challenges me to work hard and try new poses but supports every effort and reminds me to respect and accept my body as I learn and improve. I look forward to each session and feel so great as we finish. I now have more confidence in all things physical. Johanna is a great teacher!

  • Johanna is an incredibly knowledgeable teacher and mentor and will teach you the right way about Yoga. She shares her knowledge with her students, all while bringing grace, joy, and a conscious approach on each students experience level, body type, and boundaries (knowing exactly when to push and ease up). Thank you, Johanna, for teaching me for many months, and helping me create a program for me and my lifestyle. And thank you for showing me I can love my body and mind again. You’re the best!

  • After an Achilles tear and repair surgery in January, 2022, I found my body was not serving me well. Johanna had a plan ready to go on our first visit, supplementing what my prior physical therapist had given me. The first week of new exercises showed a dramatic improvement in my ankle’s range of motion as well as a decreased level of pain. Improvement steadily grew. The biggest, most beneficial revelation, however, is Johanna’s use of physical therapy in her yoga instruction and her use of yoga techniques in providing physical therapy. Currently, I am pain free and getting my life back in order. I owe this to Johanna. In short, Johanna has had an enormous, positive impact in my life. Johanna has a special spark and I look forward to her business growing so she can positively impact other’s lives as she did mine.

  • Imagine being 67 years old and never having learned to sit or stand straight! That was my life before Johanna! I first went to yoga on a lark. My friend extended an invitation and I thought I’d try it out. I am now addicted and schedule everything around my yoga time. Yoga coaching from Johanna has been life changing. It sounds like a cliche, but there are no other words! Johanna has stretched me out, increased my strength, and my balance has NEVER been better! Johanna has a high level of education and extensive experience. This enables her to connect with every student and personalize each class. She encourages everyone to appreciate the body they bring to class on that day, and makes everyone feel comfortable participating to their ability level.

  • I felt extremely supported by Johanna’s attention to detail, thoroughness and professionalism in my first appointment with her. She was able to highlight a connection between my mental process and the ‘pain’ I have felt in my Left hip. She encouraged me to trust my body and has inspired me to think differently in relation to what I feel. Two weeks post appointment and I’m continuing with my exercises and am noticing a significant difference in how I feel and how I think about my hip. So grateful to have found her!
